Bananer split once again |
Borgis FC went into last night's game against Bananer i Pyjamas full of confidence after making their best ever start in the Xtreme League. Southside Serpents had been brushed aside 6-0 in the previous league game and Borgis were also flying high in the cup. In total, Borgis had won eight out nine games, scoring 33 goals and conceding just two and recording eight clean sheets. So it's no surprise that Borgis were bouncing into the Fruktskålen expecting to record their first ever win.
"We've made a spectacular start to the season", said Borgis manager Adam Moran. He added, "If it wasn't for that draw at home we would be 100%, but to be honest, it's actually spurred the lads on. They know they need to keep winning to push TdF all the way. We now have to go and finally beat Bananer away from home."
However, for the third season in a row, Borgis have royally slipped up and been beaten by Bananer i Pyjamas on their turf. With a key midfielder missing through suspension, Bananer manager X-Jimmy-x opted for a 5-3-2 formation and once they'd took the lead through a direct free-kick just after halftime, there was no coming back for Borgis.
A dejected Adam Moran wasn't bouncing anymore come the final whistle.
"Well, there we have it. What a disaster. This the game I lose sleep over every season. Jimmy has always done me on tactics and the players never seem to perform. This time around, I thought, 'they're much weaker, we've got 'em'. But once again they've done us over.
"I couldn't decide whether they'd play 5-4-1 or 4-4-2 and he blindsided me with the 5-3-2. I then got drawn in by the weaker goalkeeper thinking long-range shots would beat him, even more so because they always mark our wings. But no. I honestly thought that no matter the tactics, we'd be too strong for them. But no!
"And to make matters worse, we lost our best defender Eusébio Praça to a bad injury. I just can't believe it. We now face TdF in a double-header, already five points behind them, with only two proper defenders, and we've got a difficult 4th round cup tie..this could get ugly!"
