Boom and bust or the long game...
Getting to the top Division and maybe winning the title that is the objective of all us surely.  No problem in a number of private Leagues even with mergers it can be done pretty quickly if you set up correctly.  But getting to the top of an Official League now that is a whole different ball game!!  For one there are a lot more teams and it takes a lot longer to build with just a single League game per week.  It requires patience as well as skill and I have seen many a Manager and team fall by the wayside as they did not have the patience.

I have hit the dizzy heights of Division 2 for one season before realising that the team would go no further and starting a rebuild that saw me tumble back down a couple of Divisions for quite a few seasons.  This time I think the approach that I have taken blending older experienced players with some really good youngsters is starting to pay dividends.  We have climbed back to Division 3 and are now building to push on.

The first couple of seasons in Division 3 was about consolidation, making sure that we did not get relegated again and introducing youngsters slowly whilst still maintaining DV.  The last couple of seasons we have been much more comfortable and are pushing towards promotion.  The blend is getting better as the youngsters start to really gain experience and I can almost field a second generation team and still get a good result.  I think it will be a couple more seasons but then we will be seeking promotion to Division 2, where I think it will be more of the same approach.  Consolidate in the Division and start to bring in some young talent to again prepare for the next step.

I think that building a team of all the same age will get you so far and perhaps get you to the top but then as I have seen its short term and many fall way back down, with no new talent coming in and no long term.  Its all boom and bust.  Again, this can be done in Private Leagues where its quicker to get back up.  But i think for getting to the top here and then staying up there is the long game.  Building slowly and consolidating and then moving forward again.

Maybe in another 10 seasons I will be knocking on the door?
