Subbuteo ponder route to 'next level'
Have Stars reached their glass ceiling?
Subbuteo Stars
' manager SirReg has few doubts that he can take his current side even higher than the Division 2 status they have just achieved,
"But how do we join the elite managers and teams who stay in the top divisions season after season?" he challenged himself and his players.
"We now have to choose between one dash at glory or try to create something of more substance and longevity.
"When I look at the top clubs, they are managing to sell players for 40 or even 60 million while my highest value talent is just 25m."
The Stars' three seasons in the toughest part of Division 3 have taken their toll on their player budget but mean the side is stronger than might have been.
"We really want to push on and reach the top flight," said SirReg. "In the meantime, we shall enjoy the immense challenge of playing the sport's very best.
"It's gratifying to have at least received some recognition from elite managers even if we have yet to earn their full respect. Bring it on."
It has taken 17 seasons for Subbuteo to rebuild and rise to Division 2.
