Kumquats long term plan bears fruit |
The Magical Kumquats yesterday celebrated only the second league title in their 15 seasons of existence, as they rose to the dizzy heights of Division 4 for the first time in their history.
It caps a remarkable couple of seasons for the men from Citrus Grove. Having come through a extremely tight play off in Season 54 to rise from Division 6, the players have been consistent for most of the season, falling to only two league defeats, a loss-free season away from home and coming extremely close to reaching the 3rd round of the cup for the first time. The season also saw The Kumquats get the better of undoubted 'bogey side' Delanteros del Absurdo at the sixth time of asking, after losing all five of the previous meetings between the two sides.
'It has been an extremely tough season,' remarked Manager Stanny80, unbelievably speaking for the first time since his appointment in May 2019. 'There are some very good teams in this Division, but the boys have shown great consistency throughout the campaign. We haven't been below 2nd place since the start of the season. I think we got a bit lucky to play AFC Bury early on and perhaps catch them off-guard, but I think overall we deserve it. I certainly wanted to make sure we did the job before the final game of the season against them.
'We will celebrate with a distanced Kumquat Vodka Tasting Party over Zoom, play the next game professionally if we are not still drunk, then make sure we are ready for what promises to be an extremely difficult campaign in Season 56'.
