| Manager of the cup round! |
The cup threw us a very tough draw against Bergischer Haufen. By comparison they're a stronger team and have a rather impressive strike-force, so this is one game we really had to get right. If we just looked at the fact that they're 2 divisions below us, we would have probably got thumped! That pretty much means nothing.
My plan was to start with a youthful side, run at them through the middle & try to contain them for the first half, before bringing on reinforcements.
At half-time we found ourselves a goal down. As the oranges were passed round, 2 identical changes were made in midfield & up front as 2 kids were replaced by 2 more experienced players. This steadied the ship.
On the hour we did the same again, bringing on our best midfielder to replace another youngster & this turned the tide in our favour, 2 of the subs scoring a goal apiece to win the game 2-1.
This tactical decision was rewarded by the league as yours truly got manager of the cup round in the cup X11. Out of around 250+ teams, that's really something!!!
