| Roller coaster of a season... |
The 54th season of Dream League is in full bloom and Pro Memoria is in somewhat of a no man's land in division 2a, currently sitting at a modest sixth place approaching the halfway mark of the season. We had a longer talk with the man in charge regarding the status of the squad and how the season is coming along.
"I'd say we're doing fairly alright so far. Not great by any means, but neither terrible. As expected, going into the season with only one complete striker of high quality for such a tough division, we're seeing a bit of lacking in sharpness offensively and goalscoring. We're also in somewhat of a rebuilding process, so with everything considered I think we're doing pretty well so far in a division that's shaping up to be very tough where every dropped point could end up being disastrous for the outcome of the season.
"Rather shockingly however, I've noticed some of the more experienced fellows, mostly the guys in midfield, having difficulty performing and living up to the standard we've grown accustomed to over the past seasons. An apparent lack of form and a huge struggle in keeping form when it has been stellar. I really don't see a reason for said struggle as it often comes after decent results and okay performances. We've spent millions on form training these past weeks and it's been all for nothing, more or less."
"You mentioned a rebuilding process earlier. Your midfield great Zeca Vizela is seeing a significant decline this season at the age of 37 and is most likely ending an unparalleled career next season. What are your initial thoughts when you think of a Pro Memoria without Vizela...?"
"I can't mince words here. Zeca Vizela has been an absolute monster for this club. A bulldozer in full force, plowing through all opposition standing in his way. With a record of 88 goals and assists in 94 games the last five seasons against tough opponents...words aren't enough to describe his greatness. When the day comes that he decides to finally call it quits, tears will inevitably fall, no matter how tough you may seem. So of course, it's going to be incredibly strange not having him around the arena and training facilities in the future.
"But it's a change that is also very welcomed in a way. We have mixed experience with youngsters for several seasons now and with Vizela's future retirement it might just be a perfect segue to focus on development instead of trying to stay in the upper divisions, especially considering our economy is extremely weak at the moment. But only time will tell."
