Economic Girlymen have finally had to concede promotion after a crazy week which has seen two legends transfer-listed.
The Girlymen opened the week with a 4-2 win over Division 5:11 champions Vadstena United to cement a playoff position that seemed impossible just a few weeks ago. Harry Kane opened the scoring for the hosts, only for Dick Otterdahl to level for Vadstena. Divino Gallardo, Rene Lendl and Gregório Bastinhas wrapped up the points for the Girlymen, Even if Otterdahl managed a consolation for United.
However, the Girlymen were brought back to Earth with a 3-0 defeat to Blandford Badger in their playoff. Fourteenth Duncanidaho notched two goals for the Badgers, and Pablo Berges completed the scoring in the second half.
Manager Pacific Panache has looked to strengthen ahead of another promotion push in the new season, signing powerful midfielder Assar Colliander, with club legends Divino Gallardo and Pontus Jacobi both set to leave the club. Gallrdo made 240 appearance for the team, scoring 47 times, while Jacobi turned out 221 times, for 32 goals. Panache says this sort of evolution is necessary to take the club to the next level.
"We knew this was coming. We had a good season this time around, possibly better than expected, but we need to do more to go to the next level. We have some outstanding young players in our squad, we just need to make room for them. Assar will give them some invaluable guidance, and we aren't finished yet."
The Girlymen are looking for some youth players, with potentially a defender and midfielder to join the club.
