After a rather non-indicatory preseason consisting of two friendly draws at home to West Adelaide FC (1-1) and away at Lusitanian Warriors (2-2), Viking North Utsire got ready to kick things off again in Division 1a with a 7-0 stroll in their first Ultimate League Cup outing of Season 52 this Friday at brand new Div 6 club Arrigo City.
It took Johan Kvalvik less than a minute to surpass his goal tally (0) for the entirety of last season and only five minutes more to outdo his combined total for the last two campaigns put together when he rattled in a pair of freekicks in the absence of regular taker Haakon Austrheim, who as the newly most-senior member of the Utsiran midfield was confined to the bench for most of the game to give the younger squad members an extended runout. Senior striker David Austrheim did start, however, to keep the average age at an acceptable level, and quickly added a third before Ingolf Kvalvik made it 4-0 on only 10 minutes. An own goal made it worse for the hosts before the break, in their debut competitive match, and after the expectedly quiet second half had seen things go dormant until the closing stages Ingolf eventually added number 6 before David notched his 118th career goal at the end.
Three assists for Johan also matched his total from last season and took him to 51 for his career to date, the 8th Viking player ever to reach the half-century. Cousin Ingolf's brace similarly raised his career goals tally to 51 by the close of play, the 12th to reach the landmark in club history. VNU await their first league fixture of the new term tomorrow, at home to first-time opposition Blazing Gooners, as they look forward to tangling with a slew of brand new opponents this season. Only old foes Cardiff Dragons and My-Tee Athletic count as "familiar", with last term's division mate Coimbra FC also back for more.
