Strikers v Rowdies - left on the pitch.
Today the rivalry of Strikers v Rowdies was reignited. Fans were treated to a match of ups and downs and plenty of emotion.
Before kickoff, notable Strikers alumni Thomas Rongen and Ray Hudson made an appearance to get the fans in the mood to will on the Strikers over the overly solid Rowdies.
As in many rivalry games, the fireworks started early when Amandio Seabra was booked in the 5th minute. Shortly thereafter Zach Hultgren scored a long range shot with the assist of Amadeus Ackesjo. The crowd went nuts as Hultgren ran directly to the supporters section, grabbed a beer and chugged it before resetting to midfield for kickoff.
The Rowdies didn't take too kindly to the celebration and gloating and Joshua McKay got a booking. Mckay's fire didn't stop then as 13 minutes later he assisted a long range volley to Moomphty Snurgler. The crowd was undeterred at the moment still cheering on the home crowd into halftime.
The 2nd half started off with a tactical substitution for the Strikers, pulling Seabra to save the bookings sending in young defender Semen Lapin (Yes, thats his name). That substitution proved costly as the defender was unable to contain the Rowdies on two goals within the next five minutes.
With a score of 3-1, the Rowdies took down the Strikers in commanding fashion though the teams on paper were evenly matched in skill and management. The difference came down to teamwork. The Strikers Midfield worked well together, the rest were very out of sync. Rowdies maintained crisp clean passing and tactics which put them over the top.
The Strikers vs Rowdies rivalry has been going strong for 40 years and will never stop. No one knows what will happen next time, but the Strikers will be ready.
