We have spent the past week delving into the workings of Transfer Market 1, and let me tell you, the old market ain't what she used to be. It appears that the value of a 17-4 skill path player has dropped to all time lows. I am not sure whether this is a sign of an preponderance of 16-4 skill path players, or simply a glut of 17-4 skill path players (maybe it is both). If it is the latter, then we should be able to build a team that is competitive. Give me a tight grouping of similar skilled players compared to the opposition's, and I should able to take this team very far. But if the best teams are built with a bar better of talent, then we could be in for a rough ride ahead because I opted for 18 and 19 year olds instead of 16 and 17 year olds, so it will be a bit harder to recoup that bar of talent.
Regardless, we are moving forward with this bunch, and if they seem to not have what it takes, then we will sell them and add the cash to the econs for the next generation of players. I am not sure how much energy I have for this, but I am confident that given 3-4 rounds of buy at 18, sell at 22, and I should have doomonyouall levels of money.
Looking at the players we brought in. All were relatively mundane looking 17-4, 18-5, 19-6 players except for the 20-7 FK, that I just couldn't pass on. I think he is high in his bar, so I should be able to double him to manage the 24-12 level that I see as the bare minimum for a top flight player.
As we sent roughly 17.25 million econ out the door for six players, we have managed to bring in 24 million by selling three of the six players who are leaving this season. I expect that the other three will raise similar levels of econs, which should put our warchest at about 60 million econ. More than enough to train this bunch for a year or two and then reevaluate.
Looking at the specifics of the bunch that came in, we have the following:
Freddie Burnham 19-6 defender, Adolf Rohleder 18-5 defender. They look nondescript as acquisitions go, Burnham has the hard shot icon, but it was their hiddens that prompted me to pick them up. Hopefully they pan out and end up being along with Queimado and Irons the future back three for Cellar Door.
The middies where more plentiful, we brought in James Gatzby, a 20-7 FK. I generally don't like to buy this old (teen years are the most productive in terms of development), but I'd like to start building the team and he is only 6 seasons from being competitive. If he manages six bars along the way, then we have managed to take a second tier player and polish him almost into top flight material. The rest of the bunch are a bit younger with Artie Kerrison at 19-6, Agne Skiffer at 18-5 and Svante Petren at 17-4. Petren will be the youngster on the squad, but he is only 4 seasons behind the eldest on the team, so we should be tight enough to take advantage of teams that are operating on the conveyor belt build. Again, all of them were relatively SQ free, but came with the hiddens that should make this a very strong team form wise, and even better, much less expensive over 2-3 realtime years.
Maybe that wont be the case, but either way, I will have the data to answer the definitive question about training costs, which as the coaches corner article reiterated for anyone who was paying attention, are the foremost drain in terms of econs. All clubs should pay close attention to their training costs because nothing else save player acquisitions comes close in terms of financial importance.
We might not be done yet, I could go with one more forward and one more defender, and then sell the redundancies when they start to cut into playtime in the early to mid 20's. We'll see what we see, but we aren't going to be looking as hard this next week, so maybe we stand pat with what we have.
Well about covers it, I am aware that this might be the most pedantic presser I have written in awhile, but after a week on the TM, keeping spreadsheets on players match experience and their clubs average form, I am in a bean counter's mindset. Hopefully it will pass, because we are playing the Pandas later this week and start the season after that. We are going to be quite a bit younger and less skilled this year, so I need my "A" game from the start.
