THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM!
2-Tone Army
have been crowned champions of the Golden League after their 3-0 win over
Viggan
and rivals
Trambolhos SAD
and
Prestwich Heys
both lost their respective games, and it means that with 2 games still remaining 2-Tone are 9 points clear and will lift the trophy come the end of the season.
It's been a very long and interesting time in charge for manager
Winnywinny
who took over the club a staggering 19 seasons ago, at that time they were in Division 4 but had all the makings of becoming a great team. 6 seasons later and they were up into Division 1 but it was clear to the manager that they would always fall short of getting any further as at that time the GL was full of oober skilled and over aged players and this was before the average age rule came in so there was no way of winning them. As well as that there were a number of up and coming teams such as
Prestwich Heys
and
Carlisle Leisure
who were better placed to bridge the gap so it was decided to rebuild, come back stronger and peak at a time when the dinosaurs had finally had their day!
Four seasons and four demotions later and 2-Tone were slumming it down in Division 5, there they were able to stabilise before going back up to Division 4 and they had another season there before making the push back up to the top, the rest is history. 5 back to back promotions all as Champions bar one and then GL League Champions at their very first time of trying ........... As Winston Churchill once said "
choose your battled very carefully and you will you on to win the war!
"
Said manager WW today "
To say I'm thrilled about winning the title is one hell of an understatement, If I'm honest I was happy just to make the GL and mix it with the big boys but we've been on fire all season whilst the teams around us have all struggled so in reality this season has been easier than a good few of the seasons getting up to this point.
I've been playing XP11 for over 7 years now and I've known many excellent managers, many of those have failed to achieve a major title so I count myself as being lucky. I could and probably should thank a number of those managers for teaching me the things I know and for keeping me here for this long but I won't bother as you know who you are ... I would however like to thank a certain someone for the fun and for the help in the earlier years (again you should know who you are and I miss you)
As for moving on, I look forward to defending my title next season and feel it won't be anywhere near as easy as this one has been. The XCL will be a laugh but I won't be taking it too seriously as I don't have the funds to compete. Lastly I would like to thank those of you who congratulated me on my success, and to the fans ... I'll see you all at the open top bus ceremony. "
Next up for 2-Tone are the already demoted Nasty FC and then finally Prestwich Heys who will hopefully be safe by then so it's all about DV before what should be a pretty good CR
