Mailman delivers for AFC against Champs
In what was one of the most surprising starts to a season in the Xpert International, which saw last seasons champions and runners up beaten at home by the two newly promoted sides on the opening day, but it was at Lerumsvallen, the home of the previously undefeated treble winners and Xpert Champions League holders where the biggest shock came as AFC Phoenix ended their 55 game and two season long domestic league and cup unbeaten record thanks to an 18th minute goal from AFC playmaker Eidar Ismail. Manager Gareth Phoenix was full of praise for his team but in usual fashion quick to keep them with their feet in the ground...
Phoenix: It's a fantastic start against the best team in X11 and in the hardest stadium there is to get any sort of result, another clean sheet here pleases me just as we did on our last visit here but we didn't manage to break the deadlock so it ended 0-0. The fact that we were able to convert this time shows they're still learning and sticking to game plans in each individual match. I thought we were unlucky to not get a second because it wasn't a foul for me and on another day it's given.
We need to now get back focused and back to our one match at a time mentality because if we don't and you lose the next match todays result means nothing. You just need to look at the other results in the league, just 3 goals scored and 5 clean sheets! That should show you how incredibly difficult this season is going to be and that every match will be one of fine margins.
Next up we have the 2nd leg of our cup match and all we want is to come away from it with everyone healthy and suspension free, which after last seasons XCL exit we know doesn't always happen.
