Heartbreak breaks up golden generation |
Blådårar Phoenix have started a major rebuild after a heart-breaking end to the run of the club's greatest ever team.
Having gone through a brilliant season and only missing out on automatic promotion on goal difference Phoenix came up against Agrela FC. A tightly contested playoff saw Ingar Skavland rifle in a freekick form 20 yards before Agrela pegged it back to 1-1 just before halftime. After 120 minutes and plenty of goalmouth action that was how it stayed. A dream start to the penalties came when the first Agrela player was saved superbly by Ruben Idensjö. However misses from Pepe Menotti and Carl-Emil Lindekrantz mean that it just wasn't to be.
The club released a statement thanking the players for their hard work over the past 10 seasons, but will now be looking to the next generation. Five players have already gone and the rest of the existing squad will be looked to move on over the coming weeks. We asked Krooper13 for his thoughts:
"When I came back to the club we had one goal,: To beat the club's record highest place for fifth in Division 3. We've just got second in Division 2 and truthfully given another season or two this group of lads would have made it to Division 1. However their value was at its peak and the board have told me to cash in. This squad was assembled on a shoestring budget, the next one will be a 100 million group that we hope can take us even higher. I'd ask for patience from the fans over the coming seasons."
