Viking cling on for festive point |
It appears the Viking South Utsira squad may have been hitting the mince pies and sherry a trifle early this year, as they looked sluggish in the extreme on Christmas Eve at home to Juventistele in Division 1b -- giving up 60% of possession and being outshot 7 to 1 in front of their own fans.
Somehow, though, their good luck against Radun5's side that saw them snatch a shock result in the reverse fixture a month earlier, when Juventistele goalkeeper and skipper Marika Apelgren was stretchered off in the 89th minute and Viking promptly scored two injury-time goals to win 3-1, held once more. Even if Blood Eagles goalie Ilone Kvalvik couldn't move very fast, she at least managed to get in the way of everything the visitors could throw at her, enabling VSU to cling on for a scarcely-deserved 0-0 stalemate.
The point extends Viking's mini unbeaten run in Division 1b to three games, and lifts them to another new high for the campaign of 3rd -- albeit still only two points above the relegation line. Next up comes a New Year's Eve home fixture against the team immediately the wrong side of that line in 6th, Bucovina Panthers.
