Lucky Viking keep winning run going
Viking South Utsira's recent recovery gained pace with their fourth and fifth wins on the bounce this week, though the Blood Eagles were indebted to a huge slice of luck in the league on Tuesday. VelvetAndroid's women trailed to a 69th-minute Elodie van Deursen strike at Division 1b leaders Juventistele, and although Isabel Øhrn levelled with twelve minutes to play the game looked set to peter out in a draw despite the Utsirans' best efforts.

Then, though, with a minute left on the clock home keeper and captain Marika Apelgren broke down injured and had to be stretchered off, leaving Juve a crucial player short for the last few moments -- and Viking capitalised ruthlessly. A minute into the time added on Ingeborg Bjørnsmoen headed them in front for the first time, and two minutes later she supplied the cross that Anneke Hovland despatched to make it a very harsh 3-1.

The result lifts VSU to 6th, with only goal difference separating them from Bucovina Panthers who are now the other side of the safety line, Angels of the North sliding two places past both clubs thanks to their 2-0 home defeat at new leaders Bombastic Girls. Viking next have a home fixture with Queirela FC, who sit bottom with just one point from their five games to date.

There was a brief scare on Saturday in the second leg of the 3rd-round Xpert Ladies Cup tie with FC Nee-Nee, when the home side took the lead through a freekick routine on the half-hour to briefly reduce their aggregate deficit to 3-1. Minutes later however Yasmine Klovning restored Viking's cushion with the equaliser, and early in the second half her sister Elza rammed home a freekick to put the Blood Eagles in front on the day too. Elza then clinched a 6-1 aggregate win with a mazy solo run and finish in stoppage time.

The 4th round pairs 133rd seeds Viking with 73rd seeds Twin Peaks Owls, who currently sit midtable in Division 2c. The two clubs have never met before in any fashion.
