Throwing in the towel |
As our team logo clearly states, mediocrity is a sin.
I was just starting to set up tactics for the league game coming Sunday and it dawned on me that a rebuild is inevitable. Even if we could, against all odds, secure promotion to the top flight this season, what business would we have playing there next season?
Our defense would be ok-ish, with the goalie finally maturing and some seniors to balance out the youfs. But oh, that midfield. You pretty much have to play with 5 mids at this level and next season we would have only a single 30+ year old middie and a 5th mid of only 20 years old. That simply will not cut it. As we all know, offense is the least of everyone's worries and mine would be mediocre at best.
So, it's time to say goodbye to this generation. The farewell is reasonably fond, although we have to fairly say that their results could and should have been better. We can blame that on the coach of course, but why would anyone do such a thing when there are external factors to point at instead?
At the very peak of their potential, this team was hit by a couple of record-breaking seasons in terms of the amount of injury days suffered. Literally record breaking as the grand total in season 62 is the highest in the Classic League top division since recorded history and I hope that record never gets broken, because I came very close to deleting my account out of sheer frustration and would not wish such a season on anyone.
Anyway: keep your eyes open for some pretty juicy offers in the transfer market, because we will be cashing out on our most promising players and then going for a deep dive towards the nether regions of the league, gathering our strength for another push to the top level.
See you all soon!
