A win! Wow. Had forgotten the feeling. |
FK Radnik Roystjina finally won their first league game of the season on Sunday, picking up a 2-1 away victory at Refreshing Jobbies.
The final score makes the win sound closer than it felt in real time, as the hosts goal was a last minute of injury-time consolation effort, which only halved Radnik's margin of victory. That was earned for them by two strikes from Asteri Etxarri on 66 and 75 minutes.
The game was not a great day for the forwards of either side, Radnik managing a 20% chance conversion ratio (their 2 goals came from 10 efforts at goal) and their hosts an even more paltry 12.5% (1 out of 8). Whether this speaks well of the keepers of both sides, or poorly of the attacks, or indeed poorly of both attacks AND both defences, is arguable. Not that Radnik fans were in a mood to think too deeply about it - the Gradski Stadion faithful were just glad to finally see their team pick up three points from a game this season.
Despite the win Radnik remain in Division 3d's relegation zone, sitting 7th, two points adrift of 5th. Manager Janik was looking for the wider implications though, remarking "Hopefully this is the start of a turn around for our season. For that to be the case we really need to back it up next Sunday, though."
The league win completed a good week for the Roystjina side as they also progressed in the Cup, adding a 1-0 second leg win to their 3-1 away victory at VotlimparZ in the opening clash. Radnik controlled the second game from start to finish, allowing their visitors no shots at all. That meant there was no way back into the tie for them, with Beau Hanks winner-on-the-night, headed home on 26 minutes, merely the icing on the cake for Radnik.
Roystjina will face another Division 4 side, Kelowna Rockets, in Round 4. The first leg is at the Gradski Stadion.
