Chrille wins his 7th MOTW |
"I should realistically be MOTW this week" I thought to myself after my last game. 15,181p in result value and 15 stars - that is way, way more than what is usually needed to win these awards. But, you never know. I'm actually writing this presser on Monday evening, two days before we know for certain. Needless to say that it won't be posted if I'm wrong, which I very well could be - I have like 10+ 2nd places over the years and it wouldn't be a complete shocker if it happened again.
Honestly, few things on Xperteleven have disgusted me more than Manager of the Week over the years. I'm not at all pleased with my number. Not even close. But I've come to terms with it. Learned to live with it. Truth is that these things are very dependent on your circumstances - things you cannot control. Like your referees, opponents and fixtures. But also where and when you play. Some weeks will offer more competition than others. Back in the day, before Iwe sold off the game, there could be a difference of 9000 managers having 2 games/week at its lowest and highest point. A peak week doesn't guarantee a higher needed number of points to achieve it, but it definitely increases the chances.
Let's also not forget how totally random the winners of this award generally is. Many, many times over the years we've had winners who hadn't even logged in during the week who ended up winning it. They scored a massive result value and their standard tactics just happened to be just right (with no win bonus). Then you have former number 1s on the game who have never achieved it. There are plenty of good managers on Xperteleven who are actually surprisingly short of awards. And that's the thing - you could in theory have been top 5 in the MOTW race 100 times and never have gotten it. While some complete stranger been in the top 5 ONCE in his whole X11 career - and that top 5 was the number 1 position - and there you have your silver star attached to your profile.
Point is that it's very easy to be misguided on this game. But enough rambling. Let's see the complete MOTW list instead:

89 managers have been crowned Manager of the Week twice or more. Before my days with The AntiChrists I always thought that people who play in the XCL should win this award consistently. But as time progressed I realized that there were some even more valuable aspects than an extra game per week to take into consideration.
So the first thing I do every XCL edition is not to scan my opponents - but rather scan my fixture list and referees. Then the opponents. And how I play will depend on whether I think it's worth going for MOTW or not. I may sometimes risk losing a game if I feel it could generate enough rank points if I pull it off. You have to balance these things out. How to play depends very much on who you play and when you play. You may end up risking it in a cup game and lose early - consequently most likely putting you out of the MOTW race for months to come.
Anyway. 7 MOTWs. I appreciate it.
