Cup exit could kill league form! |
Knights of Cydonia FC's season is in jeopardy of collapsing! We have had some good league form recently with 4 wins in a row against Taunton and DARK TEAM and with San Lorenzo losing to DARK TEAM the pack has closed up and we have a chance at promotion! This was combined with a cup run to the 6th round of the tournament, one round away from the last 16. So we were one of 32 teams remaining in the cup which will give us a good seeding for next season but we were against Wadin Wesslen BK who were a bit too good in the end in spite of the fact that the game was extremely tight.
Ant_Wixon built a very good side many seasons ago and Andropov has done a great job to keep them competitive for this long. That being said, the core of their team is quite old, kept competitive by mixing it with youngsters. That meant that they had better players than us but also play a 4-4-2 formation so we had a man advantage. It didn't really matter in the end as their midfield performance with 4 men was enough to match our 5 man midfield and that made a big difference. We did have a team that could compete with them however even if we weren't outright favourites for the match.
That being said, the manager made a mystifying substitution to sub Bagadazar Nazarian on for Adri Pauwe. This substitution was supposed to be a midfielder for Nazarian and Pauwe was supposed to play the full 90 minutes. Whether that would have made a big difference is not really known as we needed to mark Wadin's playmaker.
The problem is, this was the worst time possible to go out of the cup. The mass form drops associated with losing a close tie come just 3 days before a massive six pointer in the league against Sobral away from home. We really need to be at our best for that match but we lost against Sobral last time we went to their place two seasons ago and missed out on promotion. It seems like the same is about to happen again!
In fact, this team has stumbled a bit more on its way up the divisions than the previous side which romped to 4 consecutive promotions before stalling in Division 1. Division 1 is extremely hard to get promoted from too so the plan was to get into Division 1 and then try to stay up until the team is mature enough to get promoted, but given this team is struggling to clear Divisions 3 and 2 there is some doubt as to whether this team is capable of getting promoted to the Ultimate League top flight itself!
We can discuss this more properly if Knights do indeed lose to Sobral. It looks likely, but we know we cannot count on anything just yet. Until the final whistle blows, we still have a chance of victory!
