Late show keeps Viking five clear |
Yet another tight game between Viking South Utsira and Wælcyrie had been expected this Tuesday, and the Norse pair duly produced a perfect demonstration of the parity between them in an encounter at Ragnar Rock that saw only one shot on goal apiece. Unfortunately for the visitors, Viking's solitary attempt not only came in the 87th minute, but also found the back of Orsolya Dán's net -- Nina Austrheim driving in the crucial effort to snatch a second 1-0 win for the Blood Eagles against their old rivals in as many weeks. 36-year-old Bergljot Kvalvik supplied the layoff, her third assist of the campaign taking her combined points to 10 -- remarkably, the first time in her 21-season career she has ever breached double figures, in what is her final go around before retirement.
The win keeps VSU five points clear at the head of Division 4i after 8 rounds, whilst with nearest pursuers San Quirico and Watergate Bay Surfers also narrowly completing doubles against two of the next three down in the table it means that there is now a massive 12 points between the Utsirans and 4th place. Next up for the Norsewomen is a trip to bottom club Liverpool FCL, who are much too strong a side to be struggling so much, so this one looks like a real potential banana skin.
