Infront Cat admitted that he was not exactly looking forward the home and away fixtures against Andromeda Galaxy a couple of weeks ago, but following two great performances, he has realized that his fears were a little premature. Thanks to two splendid defensive displays and a bit of sheer determination when things got a bit tricky, KP emerged with two clean sheets, 6 points, and thanks to two great assists from center-half Lauro Bergomi, scored the only goal in each encounter.
"1-0 sounds dull to many I am sure," said Infront, " but both performances were terrific." The away match was about defensive discipline and taking chances when they came. With a half-hour just gone on the clock, KP managed to take that chance when Lauro Bergomi's long curling diagonal cross from the left was met at the far post by Michele Birindelli, who managed to sneak in unopposed to nod home.
Despite being bombarded at times, the home side were restricted to few chances, albeit that after the break the woodwork rescued KP on one occasion. That said, KP had chances themselves and could easily had a second in stoppage time only for Borman's effort to be ruled out for a very dubious offside.
With that match won the home tie took place on Sunday. This time KP were the side frustrated by the woodwork. However, with 78 minutes gone, the three prior efforts thwarted by the goal frame were forgotten as Bergomi swung in a curling cross from the right this time, which deceived the retreating England, who could only jump under the ball as it bounced into the path of Bicky Porterhouse who gleefully nodded back past Olmstead's left shoulder to make it 1-0.
Galaxy did briefly rally but were still unable to breach the defense and in truth, KP could easily have scored a second had they been calmer when on the break. The only downside were the injuries to Deiter Smith and van der Slot either side of the half-hour mark. However, the adjustments needed were fairly minimal, with their replacements Borman and Lewandovsky filling in admirably. "We learnt a lot of lessons this week," said Infront. "Galaxy were not too fortunate, especially in the first game, but in fairness, my players were terrific."
