Not taking our chances
FK Radnik Roystjina's chances of spending the coming season in Division 3 disappeared with a frustrating play-off defeat on penalties.

Radnik looked the stronger side for most of their game with FC DesertRun, but not by a wide enough margin. The Roystjina side didn't give up a chance in the 120 minutes but equally only created two of their own. That meant it went down to the lottery of penalties, and it was Radnik who came up short when Ailbhe Mahony fired their fifth one  wide.

Radnik manager Janik commented, "ah, nuts"

The Roystjina outfit are therefore preparing for another season in the fourth tier. They will go into it on the back of a decent change report that included a double jump for young forward Vitomir Andrejevic and just one impending retirement announcement, from 'keeper Ray Renton (possibly hurt by finding out via the club's previous Press Release that the manager no longer considered him the first choice!).

There were actually fewer retirement announcements than expected/feared. Renton's was expected given his age, he is now 39. But 36 year olds Luciano Furacão and Bruce Garioch had nothing to say to the manager despite him offering them the chance for a quiet word in his office, so both will continue for another two seasons. Whether they play much or not is another question, as the club had been planning on the expectation that they would be seeking to hang up their boots.
