Catching up with Dixon's Spirit Squad |
With Division 6:38 reaching the middle of its season, The Spirit Squad currently sits up at the top of the table ahead of division rivals Super Pygmies by goal difference. While the competition has been by no stretch of the imagination fierce when you compare it to last season, The Spirit Squad have capitalised on the frailties of the weaker teams in the league with 6-0 wins over Set Demeno F.K. and lion cubs. At this point in this season, it seems like it'll be more of a season that'll be decided on the final day, with Super Pygmies and Spirit Squad set to face-off on the final game of the season at Super Pygmies ground.
We caught up with dixonrobert to see what his thoughts are at this stage of the season.
"So Dixon, we're at the halfway point of the season now, ideally how would you like for the rest of the season to pan out?"
"Well obviously Super Pygmies dropping points before our game at the end of the season would be reassuring, but otherwise I don't expect anything less from my team but to go out and score as many goals they can, and win the rest of their games and try and bridge the gap between first and second. That's the least we can do really. I'm also trying my best to give as many of the younger lads the game time that they need, we have to be conscious of the fact that we're in a relatively low division, so the development of our team is what's the most important aspect of our game until we get better."
"With that being said, is there any players on your team we should looking out for?"
"Well there's a few of them as it happens. Vitalie Filipoiu has been excellent this season, and he's been showing lots of progression in training. He's a really hard worker, and it's good to see that it has been translating to the pitch recently with all the goals he's been scoring for us. The two new signings Rhys Hodge and Alexander Rosenlund have been showing a lot of progression too. They've really made their marks on the outlook of the side and they're just the kinds of players we need for our future in their respective positions."
"So the team is doing well, in terms of you as a manager you've been highly rated by a lot of the peers at Xpert. Where do you see your future?"
"I'm honored that people think so highly of me, and the jobs that I've been offered have all been rather flattering. If you're implying I'm going to move on and let someone else take the framework that I've put in place at this club, and let them take it to the top without me then you'd be wrong. I took over the side because I've never had the success I've wanted to have in the official Xpert league system, this is my chance to prove myself both as a builder of a competitive team, and a tactician. I'm invested with the team now, and it'd be wrong to do the fans like that. I want to take them all the way so long as the fans will have me. Considering the clubs history, they're in the best run of their lives, with their best looking squad too which is only going to get better. If I was a Spirit Squad fan I'd be incredibly excited for the future."
"That's a great answer, thank you Dixon and good luck with the rest of your season."
"My pleasure."
