Pikers get Labor Day revenge
NEWTONVILLE, Mass. - Glyn Abrahams scored twice and Cody Crane and Mark Höft each had a goal as the Newtonville Pikers routed Sport Pinhal Novo, 4-1 at Maguire Court on Monday. The win was especially sweet for manager Rockafowla, who had less than savory words for the opponent after the match.
"Good riddance. You can tell this club plays dirty. Look at all those fouls. We were lucky to escape this one, injury-free." Rockafowla said. "We all remember what happened in the first match when Viriato took that cheap shot on Pratt. We were glad to get our revenge."
In the previous match between the two clubs this season, Sport Pinhal Novo's star midfielder Ricardo Viriato injured Pikers' 17-year-old defender Rupert Pratt in the 90th minute, with the match well-decided. Pratt, who had been up with the club just two weeks at the time, was sidelined for multiple weeks with a facial fracture.
This time around, Sport Pinhal Novo appeared to continue their dirty and dangerous ways - the club was booked five times during the match. For their part, the Pikers took advantage of the bookings, creating 12 chances on the match and scoring four times (though none on set pieces, as has become the club's calling card).
The win was the Pikers' first in six matches. With Terps FC's loss to TugaTeam, the Pikers are now clearly back in the mix with just three match days to play. Buckle up Wayfarers, expect a wild finish down the Pike!
