Darlington Steam's Youth Development Impresses as Loofman Backs the Project
Despite previous concerns raised about Darlington Steam's long-term direction, the North East club has proven its ability to develop exciting young talent. One of the club's experienced leaders, Leif Loofman, has seen the evolution firsthand, having been one of Dazzler1703's first signings.
We caught up with the influential midfielder to discuss his thoughts on the club's youth-driven approach, standout prospects, and his own future at Darlington Steam.

Q&A with Leif Loofman
Q: You've been here for a few seasons and have witnessed the team's development. What's your opinion on the process Dazzler1703 has implemented, focusing on youth while adding experienced players like yourself and Alfred Droste?
"It's been a really well-thought-out approach. When I joined, the club was still laying the foundation, but now you can see the results. The balance between youth and experience is paying off-we've got talented young players coming through, and the senior guys are here to guide them. Alfred and I have been part of that, and it's been great to see the squad evolve."
Q: Out of the young players, who do you think has the potential to go on to big things?
"Lincoln Torquey, no doubt. He's a 17/5, but you wouldn't know it from watching him play. He's already performing at an extremely high level and has the mentality to go even further. If he keeps progressing like this, he's got a massive future ahead of him."
Q: It looks like you've narrowly missed out on the title, but promotion is still within reach. Will you be staying for the seasons to come, or is that a decision for the club?
"Right now, my focus is on helping the team finish the job and secure promotion. Beyond that, we'll see-I love playing here, but football moves fast. It's a conversation for the right time, but whatever happens, I know this club is heading in the right direction."
