Boim to bust
"That's our second key defender out for the count," Matchstick Men manager Tony Brazil watches Silvino Boim being stretchered off the Xpert Arena pitch during the cup final against Lisieux, "planning was in place to replace Quincy when he got injured in the semi final, hello Batistuta, but another one down and we're done for.
"Young Jed MacCaig on you go son," Brazil shepherds his teenage defender onto the turf, "just get in the way of Lisieux attacks when you can. We're losing by one goal, stop them from getting another. Let the big guys worry about getting one back."
Lisieux do not score any more goals, but neither do Matchstick Men so the cup is won by the second division side. Brazil is critical, "our man of the match was stand in Batistuta. Good for him but where were the regulars? What were they doing today?
"In ten seasons time young Jed you could be here again as a key part of the new Matchstick team, because today our flame may have extinguished. Time to rebuild rather than drag out a slow decline," Brazil frowns, "those under-performing players of today could be getting a sharp lesson at the end of the season.
"This season is over. From Boim to bust. But we have one more match to play," Brazil ponders, "and it is a match I'd dearly like to win to get one over on Sanfins. It also means we'd end second in the table, a nice way to bow out. Or do I just give Jed a run out and look to the future, it's only just begun?"
