Nothing finer
"Haas you beauty!" Matchstick Men manager Tony Brazil charges from the coaches area at the Xpert Arena along with all his staff to join in the celebrations. Matchstick Men have won the cup semi-final through a penalty shoot out, Haas scoring the match-winning penalty.
It is joyous chaos on the pitch and the Arena resounds to the sounds of Matchstick fans chanting. Brazil takes a moment to let it all sink in, a momentous moment for the manager, then he is picked up and tossed in the air by his players.
The fans love to see it, but it takes awhile for Brazil to reappear at the press conference. The press pack give the manager a big hand on his entrance, Brazil fakes a stagger then breaks into a big smile, "I'm sure you all know the animosity we Matchsticks hold toward Sanfins after season 54, so beating them today in the semi-final was perfect revenge.
"We also face Sanfins on the final day of the season in a battle for second place in the table, so there could be more fireworks in store. Of course, that match comes after the cup final which we are in and they are not," Brazil consults a sheet of paper and reads, "'there's nothing finer than flushing Sanfins for the final'. I'm trying to work that into a chant, it has a ring to it."
"A ring," snorts an inky hack, "sounds more like a set of cutlery dropped down a flight of stairs. Clatter, clatter, clatter."
"Thank you very much," sneers Brazil, "to the correspondent from the Sanfins Chronicle. Now if you will excuse me I have champagne to drink with my players. See you all at the final, apart from the Sanfins journalist who's race is run. But they are right. Finer, Sanfins, Final: there's got to be a song in there somewhere."
