2 games in, 2 injuries suffered
EKO FC lost today to United We Stand, which was an expected result. They got a relatively early goal, and we couldn't get back into the game, and failed to have a single shot on target. Disappointingly, however, veteran midfielder Guðfinnur Hallgrímsson suffered a serious injury which will keep him out of action until next month. Adding that to the knock picked up by young striker Jason Arnold in the cup game, and the squad is taking a battering before we've even got going.
"Obviously losing the game is disappointing - as I mentioned previously, in our now 9 fixtures against each other, the away team has only come away with any points at all once, so whilst we set up to contain them, they managed to get one and it was enough - but I'm sure the reverse fixture will see us coming away victorious and everything will be right in the world. The injury however is a bigger concern. Fortunately we do have some depth in midfield, so we will manage without Guðfinnur until he returns, however with us hoping to secure our place in the 4th division, it would have been nice to have our full strength squad for just a little longer. Regardless, next up we visit Spectre team, who have 7 fit outfield players, and 1 who'll probably play with a limp. The result is all but in the bag, but I'll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed on Friday that we manage to escape with the full contingent in one piece when the final whistle blows. We'll see you then!"
