Everything was set up for a dramatic ending in division 1a with three teams, Kalifornication, Red Angels and Not Bothered Buzzards all being being able to directly qualify to the top division in Golden League.
However, after the unlikely events that unfolded last week where Kalifornication somehow snatched first place, everything was in their own hands.
Kalifornication were ready, one win would seal first place, La Bombonera was buzzing with anticipation for the game. The skipper, Milton Boothroyd was ready to lead his boys to glory and for a chance to play in the first division for the first time in the club's history.
The foundation that the previous manager, Karlinhos, had set in motion, were ready to bear fruit. When manager Green took over in February 2020, the goal was set. Top division promotion and hopefully challenge for a cup or a league title along the way.
Kalifornication's road to get here wasn't easy, after an embarrassing cup final loss and missing out on several qualifications to division two to begin with, rumours within the club started murmuring that Green might not be the right fit to fullfil the potential and the ambitions that Karlinhos has when he started rebuilding the squad.
Fast forward to today, Sunday the 20th of November 2022. La Bombonera was ready to rock the world of football. The crowd was pumped, the hype was there, everything was set in motion for what, in the end, was quite an unspectacular evening.
Kalifornication started faltering at the end of the season and had issues scoring goals and protecting leads. With only two wins in their last eight games, Kalifornication, who started the season so well, looked destined to fail right before the goal line.
As the game kicked off, nothing happened. Kalifornication struggled to get into the groove, just like so many times in the previous weeks. They looked bleak, gutless, spineless and like there was a lack of a game plan. The Hammers managed to defend really well and Green's boys didn't manage to create a single chance. When the final whistle finally came to an end, the crowd started screaming, cheering and singing. Much to the surprise of the manager and his players.
They didn't know, but Red Angels only managed to draw away to the Wakanda Panthers whilst the Buzzards managed to win their game against The Grizzlybears. Which essentially meant, Kalifornication finished the division in first place.
As the board members invaded the pitch alongside the fans to celebrate and congratulate the players and the manager, you could hear manager the commentator yelling; "HE'S ONLY GONE AND DONE IT! KALIFORNICATION HAS SECURED PROMOTION TO THE FIRST DIVISION".
The real journey and the hard work begins now. This is not the end, this is merely the beginning for Kalifornication S.A.D.
