Meandering
I think meandering is the best way to describe everything to do with the Ant Hill Mob right now.
After relegation last season I thought that my time with the club had come to an end, and that it was time for new management. However after ten years with the club, and taking them all the way from division 8 to the winning the Golden League and Golden League cup, and champions league performances, I found that leaving was tougher than I'd anticipated. Leaving after all that time, and all that effort was too much to bear.
We fully recognise that the club needs a rebuild, and I think because my future at the club was uncertain we've found ourselves caught between a rebuild and sticking with the same experienced group of players. We've done neither or nor the other. We've belatedly brought in a few youngsters who have come in and done well, but we need to bring in further youth.
Of course finding ourselves in second place and one point behind the leaders does leave us with a dilemma; whether to keep all the playing squad together and go for promotion or to sell a few more experienced players and stay in division 1 and rebuild. As tempting as it is to try and go for promotion we've been in the top flight for a number of seasons so we know what's needed to be competitive, and as such we also recognise this squad is nowhere near good enough.
If we did somehow get promoted I've no doubt we'd come straight back down the following season. So when we do come to sell a few more players I'm fully expecting our promotion challenge to fizzle out. It's been great being up at the top end of the table but we have to think realistically and think about the long term.
