Opportunity blown |
FK Radnik Roystjina passed up the chance to snatch the Division 3d title on the final day as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by bottom side Animo Et Fide FC. Radnik should have been relaxed about the situation going into the game, as they only needed a draw to secure their play-off spot with automatic promotion relying on other results. Radnik trailed leaders Stickers FC by two points and -4 GD; they were reliant on their rivals failing to beat Black Lotus, and preferably losing which would then render the goal difference irrelevant. Should, but weren't. Roystjina looked nervy in the opening half, and it was only referee Constance Paine's whistle that prevented them being 2-0 down after just 21 minutes. Radnik did start the second half better, levelling through Ailbhe Mahony's 48th minute header, but they then reverted to type and never really looked like going on to win. And that despite Animo, who were without a win in the league all season, playing the last fifteen minutes with only 10 men after one of their players picked up his second yellow card of the day. Discovering after the match that Stickers had lost 3-0 only compounded Radnik's frustration. Just one more goal and they would have been champions. Manager Janik attempted to be sanguine, but sounded a bit strained as he commented "It was not what we were hoping for this morning, but our season isn't over. We now have a promotion play-off to prepare for."
