Lisboa Hammers have acted quickly to fill the void left by veteran midfielders, Milhazes and Aponte, who left the club at the end of last season. Both players were on the wrong side of 32 years, and they have made way to rejuvenate the squad and bring in some revenue.
The delighted manager stated: “I’m pleased to announce 20 years old Donovan Derbyshire. He has been earmarked as our future captain. He is very good for his age and we hope he hits the ground running. He has got some big boots to fill, but the model of the club is more important than individual players. We can’t allow players to leave for nothing, so it’s about finding the right time to sell, recoup some money and reinvest it wisely”
Lisboa Hammers were thought to be eyeing another defensive addition but the transfer didn’t come off after they priced out of the move. “We will always look to add quality (players) but there has to be a limit and unfortunately we weren’t prepared to pay what other clubs were demanding. So we shall remain patient and continue to develop our players. Hopefully, our youth system is ready to provide someone.”
