FC Legion of Youth manager PompeY2J has praised his side for their performance in their 1-0 win over Taz Devils FC this morning, claiming it righted a wrong.
On December 9, the two sides clashed, with the game finishing in a 0-0 draw. PompeY2J was photographed on two separate occasions sleeping in the dugouts, apparently extremely bored with the match. FC Legion of Youth's players faired little better, creating one chance all game. The result was deeply frustrating for PompeY2J.
"We try to play open, expansive football here at FC Legion of Youth. That match we played against Taz Devils FC was an anomaly. I did not want to see a repeat, so I drilled our attacking gameplan into my players before they ran out there. I made it very clear to every one of them - if we don't score in this game, we're not going home after the match. I was going to make them have a midnight training session. None of them wanted that, so thankfully they actually found their way to the goal. I did my bit to try and help them, grinding up caffeine tablets into our pre-match drinks."
Despite the pre-match team talks, it proved to be yet another boring game. A 13th-minute Yoshikiyo Hosaki free-kick proved to be enough to separate the sides, while a grand total of four chances were created between the two teams. PompeY2J went on to praise his opponent's tactics. "I cannot fault them for the way they play. They're going out there, each and every week, doing absolutely everything they can to stop their rivals scoring. In the 10 league games they've played this season, there's been a grand total of 10 goals. It's obviously working because it's keeping them out of the relegation spots. I just feel bad for their fans that have to watch it each week. I could barely get through one game."
One game could well be all that FC Legion of Youth needs to wrap up the Division 5:11 title as well. With four games remaining, they sit 10 points clear of M.U.F.C., who travel to FC Legion of Youth next week for a top of the table clash. Victory would seal the title for FC Legion of Youth, but they will have to do it without midfielder Abraão Cagarro, who picked up an injury during the game with Taz Devils FC.
