JS De Tinchebray predictably succumbed to the mighty Recognize This in the last 16 of the XCL, losing as they did 2-0 at theirs following the goalless draw at Stade Colas des Francs in the first leg.
The league campaign also finished in defeat, 0-1 at home against the Season 51 cup winners and eventual league runners-up Valencia. Credit to them for a fantastic season even though they missed out on the double due to goal difference. If the last two fixtures had been the other way around (Ant Hill Mob beat JST 5-1 in the previous week) it may have been a different story, but such is life...
Thankfully Botorca were unable to get the win they needed on the final day to sneak above JST, so the main aims of the seasons have been achieved: progress from the Group Stages in the XCL and remain in the top-flight. "I'm very proud of how the boys performed in the XCL." ejaculated Gmswjambo this weekend. "We played two excellent sides in RT and Group A winners Al Jazeera Salzburg, and we matched each of them in one of the two matches. We didn't make the last 8 but we can hold our heads high having given a good account of ourselves. I'm happy it finished that way as chances we'll be seeing some changes around here in the off-season."
The problem now will be to decide how to trim the aging squad for the future. Accept the inevitable relegations and embark on something of a rebuild? Or try to trim gradually and maybe tread water / not drop too far. One way or another, it seems the side has peaked and the only way is down. The question is how low will we go.
