The Fifth Column manager has made a good start in another chapter of division 2, as they beat Xaghra Stars 3-1.
It took up until the 84th minute of the game for a crowded Hells Kitchen to see their favorites pull in front and secure the win. But it was a deserved one and one especially celebrated as The Fifth Column lost the two former encounters against this same opponent.
"Obviously, we are thrilled with this good start. Securing as many points as possible at the beginning of the season and even more so at home is important. It boosts confidence and morale. We do not count our eggs by any means though. Last season we had a very good start of the season also but this all went pear-shaped later. We need to stay sharp."
In other good news, although manager Woodstock was not to keen on letting one of his players go, the club managed to sell one of the players to get hard needed cashflow into the club. 23-year-old midfielder sold well over 12 million including fees.
"Yes, I was sad to let Carsten go. He is an intelligent versatile and talented midfielder. However, these funds cover the many costs of the club. Albeit we still have a big 21 man squad we still might add young talent to it to replace him. We want continuity even more with a lot of players getting a tad older."
Next up for The Fifth Column is their return game in the cup against Musahimori. Progress to round 2 should not be a problem and the youngest of the lot will get their chance at playtime and exposure.
