| Minnows denied point by 83rd minute goal |
Friday 23rd March 2018 saw the team welcome 'IFK Reds' to 'The Pond' for Round 12 of the season. I decided to go very defensive with my young development squad and five men across the back with just a single frontman.
'IFK Reds' dominated most of the opening half an hour of play creating a couple of chances only, but they took the lead with the second of those to open the scoring in the 29th minute. We had a chance on 31 minutes, when Günther Schirmer had a lob just go over the cross bar. For the last seven minutes of the half, we had the advantage over our opponent and equalised in the 41st minute. Günther Schirmer got his goal by scoring from close range following a corner by Maximilian Thon.
'IFK Reds' started the second half on top as well, but it was our Günther Schirmer who struck the post with a shot on 56 minutes. After the hour mark, we had the slight edge and Andry Ehrlich's header just missed the target in the 70th minute as Dronfield wasted another chance. With thirteen minutes left in the game, 'IFK Reds' started to come back into it and re-took the lead with a shot on 83 minutes.
Our opponents managed the rest of the game to make sure they took all three points. It was disappointing to lose the match as we had chances to get a least a point, before they went ahead for the second time. However, good signs and we move on to our penultimate game next week against 'Serbian Elite'.
