Francass returns! |
After 30 seasons and a couple of promotions, manager and club legend Lazialle decided that enough is enough and in agreement with the board of Aquila decided to part ways with the club. It has been coming for a long time after a string of six matches without a win meant that Aquila, now need a miracle to reach their target of promotion to Division 3. The heated exchange with influential midfielder Aref Salah a week and a half ago has been the final nail in the coffin for the Indonesian manager.
Fast forward a week and Aquila, out of nowhere managed to get veteran manager Francass out of retirement. The Maltese, can proudly say that he has a really nice history in the game. He was once named Manager of the Week, won the cup and competed in the Xpert Champions League twice, where in one occasion he also reached the Quarter Finals, being knocked out in extra time by the eventual winners. He also held the position of 3rd best manager in the world some eight years ago, while he also dominated the Maltese ranking by holding the position of best Maltese manager in the game for approximetly four years.
When interviewed, the usual poker faced Francass said;
"Five days ago the owner of the club Mr. Lee, a former player of mine approached me to see if I'm interested in managing his club Aquila. At first I was bemused when I recieved the call, to say the least. I've been out of the game for 5 years, that means a couple of seasons. I thought my time was over but then the tought of getting back in the dugout pumped up the passion and adrenaline I had when I was a young manager and I accepted the offer".
The Maltese continued:
Regarding Aquila, to be honest I don't know much because I haven't been frequenting the 4th division lately. The owner though has a good vision for the club and from a couple of videoes that I saw we have a couple of talented players here. I will aim high as always, this year it's difficult to reach the target that there was in the beginning of the season, to get promoted. Next year we will push the players to the limit though and I also expect a solid cup run next season."
When asked about today's match against Kappara AFC he said:
"The first thing I've done when I joined was to scout our opponents. I think they're quite vulnerable in some areas although they have a player or two that are the so called players that 'can win you a match on their own'. Anyway I'm positive that we'll start in the best way possible and confident that I'm going to push Aquila to glory".
Ambitious words from the new Aquila boss. Will he really manage to push a minnow to glory? Was it a good decision to come out of retirement? Only time will tell, one thing is certain, hopeful times for Aquila fans.
