Pundits and FC Totti United Ronaldo fans alike were surprised to see FC Totti United Ronaldo's manager BarryHero announce the signing of 19-year-old Guglielmo Mazzi from the reserve team of a Master League Division 6 team at the beginning of the week.
At a press conference following the cup win (aggregate score of 2-1) against Division 6 team Banter FC on Thursday night, BarryHero revealed the reason behind why Mazzi was signed:
"I understand if this sounds a little unprofessional, and also below Totti's normal standards, but we signed Guglielmo Mazzi based on nothing but a very impressive YouTube video that his agent sent us," BarryHero explained.
The 10 minutes long YouTube clip shows Mazzi hitting some very well-placed free kicks, hitting some unbelievable cross balls, running ten 400-meter laps at a consistent pace, and also shouting instructions to his team mates.
"The clip showed us somebody who can be a future free kick taker and captain, and also can hit some great cross balls and run like a madman for 90 minutes straight," BarryHero continued. We signed him as soon as we could," BarryHero revealed.
"Has Mazzi been able to live up to the YouTube hype yet?" KSI News reporter Djorn Allyst asked BarryHero.
BarryHero sighed deeply and said "frankly, no. I know he hasn't been at the club for very long, but he's lacking in some very significant areas. His tactical knowledge of the game is very limited, and he struggles with simple tasks such as making a pass to his fellow defenders and seems to have no idea where to position himself on the field. This guy belongs on YouTube, not on a football field."
Asking whether he'll ever sign a player again based on solely video footage, the Totti manager responded:
"There's no way. I was naive. I was under the impression that this YouTube video of his revealed a very promising 19-year-old defender; but based on what we've seen of him so far he doesn't seem to have much potential. I wouldn't be surprised if we let him go after the season. He's simply not Division 5 material and won't be for many seasons, if ever," BarryHero concluded the press conference.
Responding to BarryHero's press conference revelations with a text message, Guglielmo Mazzi merely told the Totti News that he's, "happy to have joined such a famous club such as FC Totti United Ronaldo" and that he'll, "work [his] hardest to become a long-term player for the team", as well as that, "it's a great honor to be working with BarryHero and players like Kent Altin, Markus Nasberg, and Nelson Veliz."
Guglielmo Mazzi's YouTube video went viral for a second time after the FC Totti United Ronaldo press conference and has currently been viewed 650,000 times.
The Totti News will continue its coverage of the Guglielmo Mazzi situation, and report about it accordingly.
