Division 4j Set for Final Day Climax |
The Hattrick League is one that has always thrown up plenty of surprises and excitement, and this season is no different. Whilst maybe not boasting the big names from the top league, Division 4j has thrown up it's own little surprise that promises an exciting climax.
As we go in to the final game of the season on Saturday, there are 5 teams still in with a shout of promotion. Incredibly, the top 4 teams are all tied on points, separated only by goal difference.
Here's our pinstickers guide to the teams doing battle for promotion:
F.C. Argentina - 24 Points - +16 Goal Difference
In pole position but with probably the toughest final game on paper, promotion is far from a certainty for F.C Argentina. They have a +5 goal difference over their nearest rival so you would have to think that any kind of win, is likely to send them up - barring a goalfest elsewhere. The question is, can they handle the pressure against a team they were lucky to get a draw against on the opening day? Any kind of slip-up and their hopes of automatic promotion will almost certainly be over.
Final Game: At home to Hellmoppers FC
Title Odds: 4/5
Saint O'Neill - 24 Points - +11 Goal Difference
An excellent 2-0 win away at then league leaders FC Olympus last time out is what thrown the whole race wide open and created the current situation. With confidence high after such a good result, they'll be looking to take maximum points on the final day. If F.C. Argentina win, it's hard to see Saint O'Neill closing the gap enough on goal difference, however, they are perfectly positioned to take top spot if Argentina slip up.
Final Game: At home to FC Palma
Title Odds: Evens
Old Lady 1897 - 24 Points - +8 Goal Difference
It's been a hectic couple of weeks for Old Lady 1897. A late penalty in the last game was needed to keep them well and truly in the promotion race. However, the team has been in turmoil since Main-Event resigned as manager. The new manager, Colinzink, was announced on Monday though so he'll be hoping he can settle the team again, pick up maximum points and a few goals to boot and give themselves half a chance at gaining promotion.
Final Game: Away at AVP Patriots
Title Odds: 10/1
FC Olympus - 24 Points - +6 Goal Difference
It was all looking good for FC Olympus last week. A 3 point lead at the top with only 2 games to go looked like it might enough to see them up. However, a 2-0 home defeat last time out means automatic promotion is barely still in their own hands. They have got the easiest game left of all the teams, travelling to bottom club Paisley Town who have only racked up 1 point all season. The bottom side have conceded an average of 3.5 goals per game, so FC Olympus will be confident of picking up 3 points and vastly improving their goal difference. However, even with a 4 or 5 goal victory, they'll still need other results to go their way so the title now looks like a distant dream.
Final Game: Away at Paisley Town
Title Odds: 33/1
Hellmoppers FC - 21 Points - +10 Goal Difference
Even the most optimistic of Hellmoppers fans will know that their team would need a huge amount of luck to grab the automatic promotion spot. Even a play-off spot looks out of reach. However, they do have a decent goal difference. They would need to beat Argentina by 4 clear goals and then hope all the other teams above them lose, a scenario that seems incredibly unlikely. However, a win over Argentina, a team they were very unlucky not to beat on the opening day, and they could yet still sneak the play-off spot. Most fans though are resigned to another season in division 4.
Final Game: Away at F.C. Argentina
Title Odds: 500/1
