Stiinta Balances on Highwire |
Two from the top, three from the drop, Stiinta defies the odds
Who the hell do these guys think they are?
Left for dead by the prior, title winning manager, SocC had entered as the head of the club with the goal of keeping the club somewhat competitive as it started it's rebuild towards the future. Keeping the vets while training the underlings was the goal, so the club wouldn't slide completely into oblivion.
Now, Stiinta Bacau finds itself a mere two points from the top of the league with four matches to play. The side has wreaked havoc among the favorites, taking 4 points from league leading Steppenwolf Suckers and driving the Lusitanian Warriors to curse in a language foreign to SocC.
But the club still faces an uphill battle.
While 3 of the final 4 are against the bottom of the league, said bottom (sans one) are still only 3 points behind SocC and his crew. And the final match is against defending champion, Spirit of Shankly, who sits just ahead of Stiinta by way of goal differential. Coupling this with the fact that SocC has been shedding second level talent, the depth of the team is virtually non-existent, so much so, that the club is listed last in strength in the Ultimate League's top division.
"We are indeed building towards the future," said SocC, "but our vets are itching for one last fight to reach the top. We all know this is the last shot at glory, and next season will be a painful one for those who remain. That's why we are so focused on these next four games. These are everything to us now. We will leave everything on the pitch, no matter what."
FK Vucje is next.
