Me, Myself and the Powerpuff Girls
Where It All Began

Prior To The Current Season

As a brand new manager I initially got involved in the private league system due to my friend Tpol coaxing me into joining the site,

"A really fun fantasy football game", to which I replied,

"Not another fantasy football game, i'll have a look though" (the draw being a chance to beat my friends in a friendly league. I later joined the game not realising just how many hours I would eventually put into the game.

I won the season (somehow!) whilst continually failing to implement good 'xpert' tactics, my personal favourite at the time being a 4-3-3 offensive away from home, a formation I would later realise is practically suicide unless playing weak opponents.

The Development

It was after this opening season that a few friends and myself started to really research how to be a good manager. Taking note of successful managers tactics reports and looking at some of the top teams in the official leagues. This was further back up by intense conversations between us on our own philosophies and how we planned to move forward with our teams. We felt we always held back on certain aspects due to the competitive nature of the league and this is when I started my official team.

Forever Vida

I was given a brand new team under the name Forever Vida, named after Serbian defender and full time boulder Nemanja Vidic, and made my first foray into the competitive environment of the Final League. My first ambition was to be competitive and therefore I bought in some golden oldies and hoped to win my way to the peak of the Final league. I won the opening season in stunning fashion and then the realisation kicked in...

...I was never going to make it with this team and I wasn't going to have the money to keep buying players who were good enough for the division I was in. That is when I started my intense conveyor belt system. I wanted godlike players who would take the world by storm.

Conveyor Belt System

So what is a conveyor belt system? Well this is the process of building a squad over time, working on the concept of maximising DV gains for young players whilst staying competitive in the short term. You can do this in a gradual approach or in an intense fashion, which is what I aimed for. I gutted a lot of my squad by ruthlessly sacking or selling players. I kept onto a high skill older player in each position to help my youths gain DV and then went about ensuring I had enough money to spend on form training. That is when I brought in some young'uns in each position. Each year I have added a talented player or two to the mix and have been seeing great growth. I have later realised that it may have been worth saving some more money up and buying super talented youngsters (16 4s) but am happy with my worksman approach to team building. I like the fantasy element you see!

The Modern Squad

4 / 5 seasons later and I am loving the squad I have. We have over performed year after year and my DV gains have been second to none. The squad has a slightly strange look currently as I decided to make a daring experiement in the early building phases. I decided to leave my midfield strong and older in the first couple of seasons to stay competitive and as such now have a very young midfield whilst my defenders have grown up a bit. My thought process is this...as my defenders hit 30 / 31 I want my midfielders to be hitting their peak at 26. I want that ruggedness and experience at the back whilst the midfielders start to make real enrodes.

We are still in the early stages of our growth but I feel like I have implemented my plans well so far and having had an interview in the xpert daily and a real sense of awe from friends, about my team, I am feeling confident in my managerial abilities.

Just remember,

It's all about the long game for me.
