Super Drogs win 7 divisions in a row |
Having steered his team through 6 divisions in a row, manager Drogs and his team currently plies their trade in division 1b of the Hattrick League.
Today, Drogs sat anxiously in the home team dug out ahead of this mornings final round top of the table clash against Gloomy Bears. Sitting in second place just 2 points off the leaders, Drogs knew that nothing short of victory would secure an unprecedented 7 divisional titles in a row.
As the teams took to the park the decibel levels hit an all time high inside the fever pitched Windmill Road venue. Whistle in hand, the referee got proceedings underway. Early pressure from the Super Drogs brought about little in the way of a solid chance on goal. Probing for an opening, on 7 minutes, midfield maestro Raul Meireles ran at the Bears defense but was brutally hacked down on the edge of the box. Que, up stepped ace defender and free kick specialist Albert Albrechtson. Picking his spot, he coolly dispatch the ball well outside the reach of the Bears keeper and into the top left hand corner of the net. The home fans went wild with excitement.
Following an impromptu pitch invasion by some home fans, play was disrupted for about 5 minutes before ground stewards finally regained control of events. No doubt there are heavy fines to follow. As play resumed, Super Drogs continued to boss midfield and with a mean defense that hasn't conceded at home all season, the game was slowly slipping out of the reach of the visiting Gloomy Bears.
The second half followed on in much same way as the first. But then a superb tactical substitution by master tactician Drogs saw experienced 17 skill Jurgen Brown replace the man marked 16 skill Kaul Gulbreson. On the pitch for only 7 minutes, Brown latched onto a mix in the Bears defense to send the ball high into the roof of the net to the rapturous applause of the Windmill Road faithful.
As time ticked away, Super Drogs absorbed all that the Bears could throw at them. Deep into injury time, young Super Drogs striker Cavani Able broke away from his marker only to see his furiously hit curling in swinger smash back off the cross bar with the keeper beaten all ends up.
As the final whistle sounded, chants of 'Championes, Championes' reverberated around the packed stadium, much to the delight of manager Drogs. Later, our roving reporter caught up Drogs, this is what he had to say.
'When I took over this team they were languishing in the relegation zone in Div 7 of the Hattrick League with 4 games remaining. Following a change of tactics we managed to avoid the dreaded drop into the graveyard that is Div 8.'
'The following season I made some changes, bringing in one or two older player to compliment the very young players in the squad and it all went from there. Season after season we have been crowned champions of each and every division we have played in. Today win makes it 7 divisional titles in a row.'
'We now find ourselves in the top division of the Hattrick League and I believe we fully deserve to be there. Before I take a look at the new challenge ahead I'm going to give my hard working players a well earned rest. Tomorrow can take care of itself. I'm off to the pub!'
Well, there you have it, having already won 6 divisional titles in a row in the Super League, manager Drogs has now taken it to yet another level by winning 7 in a row in the Hattrick League. Hats off to a master team builder extraordinaire.
Go Super Drogs!
