Season recap |
Let's start with congratulations to our colleagues.
-To Beszinter on a miraculous recovery with a team that was managerless for most of the season
-To Torremolinos and IncidentalContact who were the deserving champs of the season
-To Northeaster Heroes and Dannynist, who took the second spot and parlayed it into a Div4 Qualification win
Best of luck to the two managers headed to Div4, and to Beszinter who is likely headed to another Division populated with Albanians. It will be lonely without the competition next season, but we'll persevere.
Looking back at the season, we'll break it down into three categories:
The Good: We managed to get clear of relegation early and then just used the matches to log DV for the future of the club. Everybody under 30 managed DV>AF with 16-18 DV except for a couple of 15's. So we spread playtime fairly well and got the kids the matches that they needed.
The Bad: Even with all of that playtime, the young players only managed good DV levels, not the great ones that we need to make this squad of 17-4 path players the contenders needed in the future. I bought 7 players last silly season, we ended up with 6x17 and 1x18 DV for them. This is good, but I was hoping for better than 24-12's after six seasons and it will only get harder and more expensive to train them each season.
As it stands, we should manage to be only as good as the team I built at GR FC, which given the current players on the transfer market is not good enough to win the XCL. Granted I started with the 17-4 skill path, but that is what we can afford to do well. If I go 16-4, we end up half a team and no training budget.
The Ugly: Along the way I eked out five MotW mentions, but all save one were in the first half; so I let up quite a bit tactically in the back half of the season. Some of this was using weaker lineups for DV, but I also missed setting tactics once, which is unforgivable.
A further sign of apathy was the fact that we wrote only 9 pressers since this point last season. Given 16 weeks, with only two spent trekking in the Alaskan wilderness we should have managed 14 pressers, yet fell 5 short. For those of you who don't keep track of stuff like this, that means that I pissed/squandered 1000000 million econ this season due to laziness.
We have to do better next season, both in terms of effort and results. The key to this endeavour with a compact aged roster is to not have to climb 5 or 6 divisions when we reach the correct age. We need to be close to the top so that we can get up there and manage to take several bites at the apple.
Next week we will have a presser on our TM search-
